About Me

My fascination with photography began during high school.  Under a dim red light, I watched a black and white photograph develop before my eyes.  It was pure magic!

At Maury High School, I took several photography classes and I joined the photography club.  I was also voted the club treasurer.  In addition to the photography club, I was on the newspaper staff, the yearbook staff, the Kiwanis Club, and the National Honor Society. I also played baseball and ran track.

My first camera was a manual Yashika TL Electro.  Exposure compensation involved lining up two lighted "U's" to make an oval shape.  Focusing was manual as well.

My first camera eventually broke, and (years later) I upgraded to the NIkon N60.  With an autofocus mode, I didn't always have to rely on my eyes. At one point, I was spending $50 per month on film processing, so I was glad to see digital SLRs hit the market.

I now have two digital SLR's:  a Nikon D70 and a Nikon D2X.  I recently acquired my D2X, so I am still in the "learning mode."  I am very excited about the high resolution (12 megapixel) and the incredibly fast image capture of the D2X.

My work has centered around nature and landscape shots.  I love zooming in on an insect or flower or capturing a bird in flight.  Of course, it is difficult to make a living on nature photography, so I have invested time and money on portrait photography.

I am currently a member of two photography clubs: The Virginia Beach Photography Club and the Hampton Roads Digital Shutterbug Club.
